The Greater Mankato Diversity Council’s latest project aims to spread community unity through origami.

The nonprofit is looking for volunteers to help make thousands of folded paper cranes. Every thousand cranes would then hang together as one unit around town at area businesses and organizations.

Kuma Takamura, the nonprofit’s education director, came up with the One Thousand Peace Cranes project, saying the crane has a symbolic meaning in Japan.
