Purpose:
The Events Committee is responsible for the overall planning of the events. The Events Committee Chair, Committee Members, and the Executive Director will work together to determine committee needs. The event committee is responsible for the overall planning of the Greater Mankato Diversity events including but not limited to the MLK Pathfinder Awards, the Annual Juneteenth Celebration, and the Greater Mankato Diversity Council Annual Meeting with GMDC staff.
Job Description:
- Find, create, and implement events that GMDC holds annually, and educate the public about everything associated with GMDC and its work.
- The Events Committee will provide written reports to the Executive Director, of any actions taken, meetings held, or discussions that have occurred.
- With support from staff, annually submit objectives and a work plan for the committee as part of the planning and budgeting process.
- With support from staff, annually evaluate its work as a committee and the objectives it has committed itself to and report on same to the Executive Director.
- The Events Committee will annually review the committee charter, work plan, and membership.
Key Responsibilities:
This includes everything from budget to venue and guest list to guest RSVPs (responses). They also ensure their volunteers know how to pull off a successful event.
Qualifications:
- Passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a solid commitment to fostering an inclusive environment in our schools and community.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Knowledge of diversity education principles, cultural competency, and best practices in promoting inclusion.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to collective decision-making processes.
- Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new information and perspectives.
- Previous experience in diversity-related work or education is preferred but not required.
