Purpose:
The GMDC Finance Committee is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment within our schools and community by promoting awareness, understanding, and appreciation of diversity in all its forms. Our purpose is to play a strategic part in oversight, planning, and governance to help secure program longevity and sustainability.
Volunteer Position Description:
A GMDC Finance Committee Member is an integral part of our organization's commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a member of this committee, you will play a vital role in promoting awareness, understanding, and appreciation of diversity among our community.

- Participate in budget planning and reviews for adjustments while developing key guidelines before budget planning
- Recommend and monitor financial reporting standards to fit the programming inflows and outflows of the organization to include the minimum of the following:
- statement of financial position
- statement of activities
- statement of cashflow
- functional expense reporting
- Analyze trends in program success and education to identify barriers and new opportunities
- Meet on a scheduled bases to have in depth discussion on program long term financial stability to integrate a 3-year planning cycle
- Evaluate and support sourcing of new fundraising opportunities with staff and board members
- Evaluate exception requests for expenditures to present to the board of directors
- Participate in periodic file retention management and reconciliation reviews
- Support designated parties with the review of annual reporting
- Review, write, and recommend financial policy and procedures for board approval
- Recruit new members to the committee
- Lead recruitment efforts to establish a fundraising sub-committees as needed
- Establish clear goals in collaboration with staff and board of directors to integrate into budgeting and planning efforts
Qualifications:
- Passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a solid commitment to fostering an inclusive environment in our schools and community.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Knowledge of diversity education principles, cultural competency, and best practices in promoting inclusion.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to collective decision-making processes.
- Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new information and perspectives.
- Previous experience in diversity-related work or education is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of basic concepts in finance and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of basic concepts in nonprofit finance and reporting structures including allocation standards and designations for handling public and private contributions.
- Commitment to transparency and integrity in all areas of finance management and reporting.
- Commitment to following all standards of financial reporting and funds management in accordance with federal and state regulations and in meeting the expectations of all funding partners.
